Seven Lochs
Seven games for seven lochs in the east end of Glasgow
Formed after the last Ice Age, the seven lochs of Hogganfield, Frankfield, Bishop, Lochend, Woodend, Johnston and Garnqueen now make up Scotland’s largest urban heritage and nature park – the Seven Lochs Wetland Park.
The area carries deep layers of history, from Mesolithic hunter-gatherers and Iron Age crannogs through to the mines and steelworks of the industrial revolution. Once home to wolves, bears and lynx, the lochs are today undergoing a revival, with thriving biodiversity and growing community engagement.
To capture this richness for younger audiences, Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Glasgow City Council and North Lanarkshire Council commissioned Lateral North to create a series of interactive games.
Working with game developer Alex Asvegren, the team designed seven digital games with a consistent brand and illustrative style, inspired by children’s books but appealing to parents too.
The suite of seven games ranges from toddler-friendly activities like Mix & Match, Take Me Home and Fake Nature, to word puzzles and drawing games for older children, culminating in Tadpole – a survival challenge where players grow from larva to frog while avoiding predators.
Deployed on tablets at Hogganfield Loch, the games invite families to explore the park’s heritage and ecology in a fun, interactive way, helping a new generation connect with this unique landscape.
